Zombies, earthquakes, and retirement

Disturbingly beautiful: the definition of "true love"
Despite the social media world going crazy over the Great East Coast Quake of 2011 (F*** yea Earthquake) and the announcement of Steve Jobs retiring as CEO from Apple (The Life And Career Of Steve Jobs, In Crazy Taiwanese Animation Form), my favorite link I came across this week has still got to be the Zombie Engagement Photos. The photos were apparently leaked early, but check out the link to see the photos arranged in the proper order.

Man, I can't wait for The Walking Dead to come back in October...

Voltron, Defender of the Universe

With the new pricing structure at Netflix set to change in September, I'd like to say I'm planning to cancel my subscription entirely, but they're making it very compelling to at least keep paying for their streaming service.

Looking at the TV shows I've added to my queue over the summer, Netflix keeps upping their game: great dramas like Mad Men and Friday Night Lights, and a slew of comic book-related cartoons like 90's staples X-Men and Spider-Man, and even recent series like last year's Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

This past Friday night, I couldn't help but seeing how the great 80's cartoon Voltron held up to the test of time. Though I'd be hard-pressed to recount any specific storyline, I fondly remember the opening theme which was narrated by Peter Cullen (aka Optimus Prime from Transformers). The theme and the show itself were quite epic and thanks to the magic of YouTube, you can take a look below:

Did I mention that Mattel is releasing a new set of the Voltron lions that will fit action figures of the pilots into them? While it will be gradually released over the course of the year, in the end, this bad boy will run you $290:

What's your favorite cartoon from the 80's?

Delusional bat, man

Article: Katie Cook's Comic About Batman as a Delusional Child Needs To Happen

As much as I love Christopher Nolan's Batman films, I would buy this interpretation in a heartbeat. To see some sketches of the awesome pitch above, click on the article link.

Beef always beats turkey

I may be enjoying my wife's summer vacation more than she is: I've had the pleasure of eating Loco Moco two nights in a row thanks to the additional time she has right now to cook up some delicious dishes from her home state of Hawaii. For those unfamiliar with this dish, I refer you to Wikipedia:

Note: This is a Google'd image, I consumed my actual dinner before I could take a pic

"Loco moco is a dish native to Hawaiian cuisine. There are many variations, but the essential loco moco consists of white rice, topped with a hamburger patty, a fried egg, and brown gravy."
Yea, not exactly what I'd categorize as "lighter fare", but it hit the spot after getting back from the gym (and probably cancelled out any benefits from said workout).

I've had writer's block since early July and I'm thinking of narrowing the topics my entries. I find myself asking, "Does the world really need another food blog, worship blog, or electric guitar gear blog?" because the overlap of folks interested in those topics is slim at best.

Lastly, Ron Swanson of NBC's Parks and Recreation is a new hero of mine. He would no doubt enjoy a good Loco Moco. Seeing clips of his scenes on YouTube was the sole reason I checked out the show, surely a testament to his greatness, thus I leave you with the Swanson Pyramid of Greatness (click to zoom in):
